Care & Cleaning

Your APEXX kit is built to take a beating — but even tough gear lasts longer with a little care. The right habits (and avoiding a couple of common mistakes) will keep your lenses clear and your eyewear going strong for years. Here's everything you need to know.

GOGGLES & GLASSES

CLEANING YOUR LENSES

The golden rule: never dry-wipe a dirty lens. Dust and grit act like sandpaper, and even a scratch-resistant coating has its limits.

Instead, rinse the lens under lukewarm water first to lift off mud and dust, then let it air dry or dab gently with the microfibre bag that came in your box. For fingerprints and smudges, breathe on the lens and buff lightly with the microfibre — that's it.

Avoid: jerseys, sleeves, paper towels and tissues (all more abrasive than they feel), and any household cleaners, alcohol wipes or solvents — these strip lens coatings permanently.

---------

GOGGLES: FOAM & FRAME

The face foam soaks up sweat and grime, so give it a freshen-up now and then. Pop the magnetic lens out, rinse the frame in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, gently squeeze the foam (don't wring it), rinse clean and leave to air dry away from direct heat. Never machine-wash, and never dry on a radiator — heat is the enemy of foam and frame alike.

Straps: if the silicone grip stops gripping, it's usually just sweat and dust. A hand-wash in lukewarm soapy water, a good rinse and an air dry brings it back.

---------

GLASSES: FRAME CARE

Less to look after here, but sweat is the thing to stay on top of. Every so often, wipe the frame down with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap, paying attention to the nose pads and temple grips where sweat and sunscreen build up. Rinse the lenses under lukewarm water before cleaning, same as always.

STORAGE

Where your eyewear lives between uses matters more than you'd think.

Do: store them in the microfibre bag or hard case, lens facing up, somewhere cool and dry. After a wet or sweaty session, let everything dry out fully before packing it away.

Don't: leave them on a car dashboard or parcel shelf (heat warps frames and damages lens coatings), throw them loose into a bag with tools and hardware, or store them damp — that's how you end up with musty foam and misted lenses.
